Employment Law Update: Michigan Minimum Wage Set to Increase in 2026

Michigan workers can expect an increase in the minimum wage to take effect January 1, 2026, when the minimum wage will rise from $12.48 to $13.73 per hour.

The minimum wage will not reach $15.00 per hour until January 1, 2027.

Exceptions still exist under the Michigan Improved Workforce Opportunity Wage Act (MIWOWA) for tipped workers and minors under age 18. The tipped minimum wage will rise from $4.74 per hour to $5.49 on January 1, 2026. Covered workers who work more than 4o hours per week may be eligible for overtime pay of time-and-a-half their regular rate.
